Aeonium arboreum 'Atropurpureum'

Purple Pinwheel Aeonium

image

This striking dark-purple succulent is originally from North Africa and the Canary Islands. Purple rosette heads are perched on upright stems, lending the plant an extraterrestrial look. The plant can grow up to three feet tall, and its rosettes can reach up to six inches across.

In the winter, the plant blooms in very small yellow flowers, which are clustered along a center stalk.

Following the succulent’s native habitat, the plant thrives in full sun near the coast, and benefits from partial shade inland.

With its strikingly colored foliage and unique architecture, 'Atropurpureum' stands out as an intriguing novelty plant for coastal southern California landscapes. This foliar accent succulent adds charm to rock gardens and enlivens any patio container.
