Callistemon salignus

White Bottlebrush

image

Native to Australia, this sun-loving evergreen is attractive all year round. Its three-inch long willow-like leaves emerge bright pink to copper and create dense foliage that forms appealing ripples in the wind. In late spring and early summer, the plant is covered with creamy-yellow flowers that resemble bottlebrushes, providing nutrients for hummingbirds.

C. salignus can be up to 25 feet tall and 15 feet wide, either as a shrub or small tree, which has a vigorous root system. For its charming appearance, the plant makes an excellent garden and street tree, although it is advised to keep the specimen at least 30 feet away from any buildings.
